On the lower (western) side of the Europontal site, an extremely strong and unpleasant odor was noticeable on the morning of September 15th, 2025, around 8 a.m. The stench appeared to originate from massive piles of wood waste, which seem to be rotting and possibly releasing mold and other harmful gases. Europontal seems to be attempting to hide this toxic refuse, but the wind that morning was unfortunately unfavorable, carrying the foul air over Ludo Wald, Montenegro, and Quinto de Eucalipto, severely affecting those areas. The smell was even detectable as far away as the Möve gas station near Faro Airport. This unbearable situation lasted roughly between 7 and 9 a.m.
